Hello students :) as stated during our first meeting... the midterms will reflect your grades as of today (flat grading system not the 50% midterms and 50% pre-finals) :) the maximum grade that you can get is actually 3 since I temporarily set the project grade to 70%. The grades are broken down into Exercises and Assignments (30%), Quizzes (30%), Attendance (10%), Project (30%).
I also didn't include yet your plus points :) nor the written report regarding the seminars. Btw, some students will need to talk to me by next meeting (please see the P.S. below - right after the entire list of grades)

Crossroads

Well, this is my first and last post for this blogsite this year... yups, I'm closing down "The Normz". But... I'm opening a new and improve blogsite titled



I'm still playing around with the design (modifying the K2 template I got from "gecko and fly") hopefully I can fix everything by mid Feb (even temporary postings that I've placed) but basically that'll be my new home on the net! Anyway, gotta go! God bless!

Till Next Time

Yesterday was the last time for me and the Saturday music team to sing / play during the Saturday service the VCF-Taft Pedro Gil Center; since we'll be transferring to a new location at Harrison Plaza - Village Square! :)

I can say that I feel sad and excited at the same time. Sad because for a time, we won’t have any Saturday service and excited at new ‘land’ where God has called us. By the way our new location has a bigger capacity (1000 seater!), will have new equipments and a great location, near the Central Bank, Harrison Plaza Mall, Philippine Sports Commission and De La Salle University to name a few. God has definitely blessed us!

I thank God for giving me the opportunity to sing for Him these past months with the Saturday Music team. I’ll miss the camaraderie with the team members, we’ve been with each other through think and thin… for one purpose… to praise and glorify God through the talents He gave us. Being part of the music team, is an experience I won’t forget… singing for God, seeing the people praising and worshiping the Lord is amazing!

To the team members… I’ll cherish the moments we had, the memories we’ve shared… During this 'time of rest' I know we can serve God in other means... He'll be calling us to reach-out to people, maybe some to other teams / ministries. I believe the harvest in our new home will be great! I look forward to again singing and playing instruments with you for our Lord. Till then, may God bless you always! Always take care!

Long time

It's been awhile since I last posted something in my blog. Well, been very busy with work and plans hehehe :) Well, I'm back! Weee! So excited to share how God has worked in my life these past few months.

He's been faithful that He has lead people to whom I can share His glory (see photo) - Snappy (middle - wearing green) and Paolo (besides snappy - wearing orange). They've accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. My brothers in Christ may you always look to the Lord for strength and guidance.

Breaking the Fast, Movie Time and Fellowship

Last thursday (Jan. 12), I broke the fast that lasted for 1 week. It was an experience I will never forget... an act that I'll be doing regularly in my walk with God :)

Well, what a way to start the year... facing trials and tests during the moment when I'm at my weakest (physically) - people often think that people fast because of a "prize" or a prayer that we want God to answer... but if that will be the case then... is fasting a way to "twist" God's arm? Just for us to get our prayers answered? Is fasting a way to "make" God into a genie who answers all our wishes? I think fasting for centuries has been viewed in the wrong way... if you read the Bible... fasting is an integral part of being a Christian... people often think that it is a way for God to "hear" us... but rather... the real heart of fasting is for us to hear God... to know God... to have a deeper relationship with Him... that He is the source of everything we have and we are. God Himself is the prize... A relationship with Him is the very reason why we fast... every blessing that comes after that is simply a bonus :) The whole point of fasting is re-aligning to God and dedicating your life to strive to get to know Jesus better. I'm looking forward to all His plans and purpose for me this 2006 and my life...

FYI... my fasting was - 3 days [water only] and 4 days [1 meal a day]. In the future, I'll do 1 week water only but I'll be preparing my body for that hehehe :)

I'm so thankful to God - sustaining me and my fiancé during the fasting period... He also strengthen us as we go through the trials and testing during our engagement. I know that when God places things in our lives it is for the better. Me and my fiancé believe that these tests will strengthen our relationship... but importantly... it'll strengthen our relationship and faith in the Lord :) We might not understand the tests... but we know the heart of the test giver... and as is written in the Bible... God's will is good,pleasing, perfect (Romans 12:1-2). Thank you Lord! :)

Me and my fiancé watched "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe", we were with our spiritual brother and sister... Taki and Meng Cuevas. I can remember that Taki and Meng's relationship was one of the "seeds" that lead me to this journey of mine... knowing and surrendering - Jesus as Lord and Savior of my life. Me and my fiancé enjoyed the fellowship and the movie. Hearing how God worked in Taki and Meng's life is a testimony of how powerful and loving God is. With regards to the movie... man! It was great! Probably one of the best movies I've ever seen. C.S. Lewis was able to portray the very heart of what Christianity is all about. The battle over man... what sin will do... the "wages" of sin... the ultimate sacrifice (what Jesus has done for us)... what we can do as Christians... talk about tons and tons of symbols of how we are as a Christian! I can say that the movie strengthened my faith in God :) I talked to my fiancé already about investing in an original DVD... Weeee! :)

I'm Engaged! Day 4 of 7 day Fasting

God is great! :) Yep the title of this blog posting is correct... I'm engaged to a very loving, caring, beautiful woman of God. It's really different when God is the one who wrote your love story. Talk about miracles and plans unfold under His Lordship. As stated in

Matthew 6:33
"Seek first His kingdom, and His righteousness and all these things will be given to you aswell."

It's a promise by God himself that if we just choose to focus on Him, to make Him number one in our lives, to really have faith in Him and surrendering everything to His Lordship He'll be blessing us... and this blessing is beyond our wildest dreams. I like to tell everyone that God is not a bystander... He's not an uncaring God who will just watch you do things... but He's an active and loving God who would like to bless you... He's a God who would like to be involved in your life, not some spectator that most religion says He is.

Hmm, I expect lots of "bumps" on the road but... We'll be moving by faith... We strongly believe that God called us to do this... and amidst opposition, we'll move forward... For God said so. I know one day everything will be great because God is a gracious God. :)

We'll I'm in my 4th day of fasting and c'mon! God continues to nourish me through this fasting season... :D I love Jesus so much! :) Weee!

Gone Fasting Whoa! Weee!

Been awhile since my last post hehehe... well, happy new year to everyone... man! I believe this will be a year of breakthroughs, blessings and experiencing new and more exciting things / events under the Lordship of Jesus Christ! Weee! :)

Well, our church (Victory Christian Fellowship) - is doing it's annual 7 day fasting. I'm excited to undergo this... the longest fast I did was a 3 day water fast and man it was amazing! :) I'm excited to forego of solid food and juices for the next 7 days and focus on the Lord (only taking in water).

I'm in my 2nd day of fasting and very funny... sardines now seems to be as enticing as eating a big chuck of steak! The smell of food is increadibly tempting... but just like what Jesus said in the bible...

Matthew 4:1-4
¹Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. ²After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. ³The tempter came to him and said, "If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread." ⁴Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'"

For those wondering why fast? Click on this link :) I believe that prayer and fasting is a vital part of being a Christian... some view fasting as mere tradition or obligatory... but I belive fasting is relational - a relationship with you and the Lord Jesus Christ. C'mon! Weee!

Philosophy is Flawed

Do you believe everything can be explained? Science and Philosophy tries to explain and measure who God is... his existence... but can you honestly say to yourself that with our limited brain... our limited capacity... our limited knowledge... can man really explain the unexplainable? Measure (something that has beginning and end) the immeasurable?

The Story of the Atheist Professor and the Christian Student

An atheist professor of philosophy speaks to his class on the problem science has with God, The Almighty.

He asks one of his new Christian students to stand and.....

Professor : You are a Christian, aren't you, son?
Student : Yes, sir.

Professor : So you believe in God?
Student : Absolutely, sir.

Professor : Is God good?
Student : Sure.

Professor : Is God all-powerful?
Student : Yes.

Professor : My brother died of cancer even though he prayed to God to heal him. Most of us would attempt to help others who are ill. But God didn't. How is this God good then? Hmm?

(Student is silent.)

Professor : You can't answer, can you? Let's start again, young fella. Is God good?
Student : Yes.

Professor : Is Satan good?
Student : No.

Professor : Where does Satan come from?
Student : From...God...

Professor : That's right. Tell me son, is there evil in this world?
Student : Yes.

Professor : Evil is everywhere, isn't it? And God did make everything. Correct?
Student : Yes.

Professor : So who created evil?

(Student does not answer.)

Professor : Is there sickness? Immorality? Hatred? Ugliness? All these terrible things exist in the world, don't they?
Student : Yes, sir.

Professor : So, who created them?

(Student has no answer.)

Professor : Science says you have 5 senses you use to identify and observe the world around you. Tell me, son...Have you ever seen God?
Student : No, sir.

Professor : Tell us if you have ever heard your God?
Student : No , sir.

Professor : Have you ever felt your God, tasted your God, smelt your God? Have you ever had any sensory perception of God for that matter?
Student : No, sir. I'm afraid I haven't.

Professor : Yet you still believe in Him?
Student : Yes.

Professor : According to empirical, testable, demonstrable protocol, science says your GOD doesn't exist. What do you say to that, son?
Student : Nothing. I only have my faith.

Professor : Yes. Faith. And that is the problem science has.
Student : Professor, is there such a thing as heat?

Professor : Yes.
Student : And is there such a thing as cold?

Professor : Yes.
Student : No sir. There isn't.

(The lecture theatre becomes very quiet with this turn of events.)

Student : Sir, you can have lots of heat, even more heat, superheat, mega heat, white heat, a little heat or no heat. But we don't have anything called cold. We can hit 458 degrees below zero which is no heat, but we can't go any further after that. There is no such thing as cold. Cold is only a word we use to describe the absence of heat. We cannot measure cold. Heat is energy. Cold is not the opposite of heat, sir, just the absence of it.

(There is pin-drop silence in the lecture theatre.)

Student : What about darkness, Professor? Is there such a thing as darkness?
Professor : Yes. What is night if there isn't darkness?

Student : You're wrong again, sir. Darkness is the absence of something. You can have low light, normal light, bright light, flashing light....But if you have no light constantly, you have nothing and it's called darkness, isn't it? In reality, darkness isn't. If it were you would be able to make darkness darker, wouldn't you?

Professor : So what is the point you are making, young man?
Student : Sir, my point is your philosophical premise is flawed.

Professor : Flawed? Can you explain how?
Student : Sir, you are working on the premise of duality. You argue there is life and then there is death, a good God and a bad God. You are viewing the concept of God as something finite, something we can measure. Sir, science can't even explain a thought. It uses electricity and magnetism, but has never seen, much less fully understood either one. To view death as the opposite of life is to be ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist as a substantive thing. Death is not the opposite of life: just the absence of it. Now tell me, Professor. Do you teach your students that they evolved from a monkey?

Professor : If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process, yes, of course, I do.
Student : Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes, sir?

(The Professor shakes his head with a smile, beginning to realize where the argument is going.)

Student : Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution at work and cannot even prove that this process is an on-going endeavour, are you not teaching your opinion, sir? Are you not a scientist but a preacher?

(The class is in uproar.)

Student : Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the Professor's brain?

(The class breaks out into laughter.)

Student : Is there anyone here who has ever heard the Professor's brain, felt it, touched or smelt it?..... No one appears to have done so. So, according to the established rules of empirical, stable, demonstrable protocol, science says that you have no brain, sir. With all due respect, sir, how do we then trust your lectures, sir?

(The room is silent. The professor stares at the student, his face unfathomable.)

Professor : I guess you'll have to take them on faith, son.
Student : That is it sir.. The link between man & God is FAITH. That is all that keeps things moving & alive.

When God Made You

Is there really someone out there for you? Did God create that perfect match?

Genesis 2:22-24

22 Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.

²³ The man said,
"This is now bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called 'woman,'
for she was taken out of man."

²⁴ For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.

As we can see in the Bible, God created Eve for Adam; that before all God's commandments the very first thing God instituted is marriage. God was the one who initiated it. God was the one who created Adam and Eve for each other.

Honestly speaking the first time I read the verses above a thought crossed my mind - "ei, did Adam / Eve have a choice?". Well, a very valid question. Unlike Adam and Eve's time the world we live in today has nearly 5 Billion people in it. But I submit to you today that the number is irrelevant. I believe God being the provider and loving father will create or have already created that special person just for you.

Now you might be thinking... "Ok wise-guy, proof?". Well, the best proof I can give you is of course God's Words - the Bible. Will a God who blesses you with your financial problems, health problems, spiritual problems, family problems - will he not bless you with the one of the best gifts that He can give? A partner for life?

I'll be elaborating more on this topic in my succeeding posts :) but before I leave this blog post behind I'd like to tell you guys that before you "find" or God "gives" you that special someone for you; you should be right with God in the first place. :) Build a relationship with God first, put him first in your life and believe me my friend... everything and I mean EVERYTHING will fall into place. It's really different reading, hearing and knowing what faith is, what he can do in ones life... to experiencing it first hand! :) Seeing the hand of God literally move through your own life and the people you love. Awesome!

Blessings, upon blessings... only God can create such a story... I'm in awe of his power, his glory, his majesty! Lord you have blessed me so much! I was able to write the poem below because of you Lord. I can't thank you so much... for everything!

I thought of you I wonder why,
I often do this when I cried.
Times when I am in the rough,
when my heart was sad and carrying hurtful stuff.
I found it strange then thinking of you,
well during those times I didn't have a clue.

Despedida for my brother

Last night just had a midnight dinner with my family @ Jack's Loft in Eastwood. It's been a long time since we had one... dinner together, since all of us are already working and we barely have common schedules anymore. This night also was a despedida for my younger brother James; he'll be going to Singapore tomorrow to work there.

Thinking back to my childhood... I have fond memories of family get-togethers, usually during Christmas or during special occasions. These activities help rekindle the bond of a family. Thinking of my own future... when I have my own family... activities such as these will be a constant part of my family life. I'll spend time with my wife... scheduling dates with her... for us to spend time & cherishing each other & thank God for what he has done to our lives, for creating her for me and me for her. When I have kids... they'll have their own special time with me... and with my wife as a family. Of course I'm talking all in future tense here - since I'm not yet married hehehe.

Well, this blog post is for my family - specifically my brother James (besides our mom). Well bro, I wish you all the best in Singapore. We might not have spent that much time... when we were younger we were usually at odds... especially when our parents were not around... thinking back to those times bro... I can't help being the older brother... looking after my siblings - I did that out of love and concern. Thinking now and the future, I don't know if I'll be able to visit you in Singapore... I don't know if you'll be able to return to the Philippines during special occasions but what I'm sure of is that I'll miss you bro and that you'll always be part of my prayers. I know Singapore’s a very hectic place... at times when the going gets tough... just pray to God for guidance and strength. Well, you take care now and don't forget to write or in this case e-mail :) God bless always!

My prayer for my brother James

Lord God, I lift to you the life of my brother James (Jim-B)... I thank you for having created him to be part of my family. Lord, as he goes to Singapore to work and make a living for himself - I pray that you guide and protect him. I pray Lord that you present people to his life in Singapore that will help him through all his endeavors. Father God, I pray for provisions for my brother... I pray for health and protection... I pray for continual blessing upon him. I lift you up the life of my brother whom I love - in Jesus' name. Amen.

Terms and Titles

People often ask me... so what type of Christian are you? Evangelical? Baptist? Born-again? Catholic? Orthodox? Etc...

Hmmm... I think there are differences on how the Truth is taught in a particular group... but I don't think titles are important... but what is important is what's the state of the individuals relationship to Jesus is.

Let's look at the heart of it all... beyond the group name... The heart of what being a Christian is all about. "Christian" (as generally accepted) is a title given to someone who is a follower of Christ. But I submit to you - that not everyone who says, "I'm a Christian" is a "Christian"... some people live lives as if "Christianity" is a badge.

Regardless of group affiliation... Christians call Jesus as "Lord". My friend, I'm sure if you're a part of any of the Christian groups... at one point in your life... you called Jesus as "Lord"; maybe in the prayers you pray... especially at hard times... but let me show you what Jesus said 2000 years ago as testified in the Bible...

"Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say?" (Luke 6:46)

"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven." (Matthew 7:21)

Hmm, do we only call him Lord... in our prayers? What does it mean to call someone Lord in the first place? During the olden days, the title of Lord wasn't merely a title given to someone. It talks about authority, talks about having the say, talks about giving your allegience. During medieval times - servants died for their lords... knights fought and died for their king. Servants followed each and every command even if it will mean their lives - that's how heavy the word lord is.

In our modern world... Lord might mean boss... in an office scenario... your boss is the one who calls the shots... the one who you follow... I doubt it if any employee will say no to his or her 'boss'.

Plain and simple lordship demands obedience... Now let's see... hmmm, are we serious when we call Jesus Lord? or is it simply a title that we put besides his name? Hmmm, you might answer... "yes I call him Lord and I'm serious... I follow his commandments!" Now I ask you, what do you think of the following verses below?

"You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, 'Do not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.' But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brotherwill be subject to judgment." (Matthew 5:21-22)

"You have heard that it was said, 'Do not commit adultery.' But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart." (Matthew 5:27-28)

What do you think? :) Search your heart my friend... do you call Jesus 'Lord' as a title or 'Lord' because he has total dominion over your life? Do you really live-up to what Jesus asks of you? Are you really a Christian? :) I'll be elaborating on this topic in my succeeding posts :D

Oh by the way... going back to the question above... I answer "I'm a Christian", people usually respond, "born again?"... I respond... "Christians go through the process of being born-again, it's not a title connected to being a Christian... so to answer you question... I'm a Christian" :)

Yes, you don't like to kill people. That goes against everything you belive in. It's not that you are a coward, but your ideals and morals wouldn't allow it. You are the typical hero, do the righteous things, get the bad guys and do it all legally. But just because you don't kill doesn't mean you can't kick ass. And that is what you do. You use your brain and your strenght to do honourable deeds and protect people you know and love. If an evil guy is going to take over the world soon, it's you who will get involved. You hate watching innocents suffer, and love seeing bad people getting what they deserve. You are probably also happy and optimistic and work pretty good in groups. And the friends you usually make are true ones.
